Staffordshire Potteries. Looking for ancestors jet ware.
« on: Saturday 12 December 15 17:13 GMT (UK) »
My GGGG grandfather Elijah Brookes had a number of pottery firms in the potteries in the 1890s - 1920s. The two we know of are E.Brookes & Son and Keele Street Pottery. There was apparently 5 in total, but I have been unable to find what they were called. I have looked in the Geoffrey godden directory, and this only mentions KSP.
I plan to make a trip to the potteries to try and find more information.
I was wondering if anyone might know of any places in Stoke where there is a lot of pottery for sale? I want to try and find more of the e Brookes and son encaustic jet. There is a lot of the Keele street about.....

Most if not all of the potteries have shops and pot banks.

Have you tried the Potteries Museum to see if they could help?

You may already have seen the below - there seem to be two called Brookes.

I did try them, but didn't really get anything of use. I'm just interested to find some large antique/pottery shops in the area. I guess I'm more likely to find pieces local to where they were made

Take a look at the last link I gave - that's KSP. It gives a list of other works acquired by Elijah which may lead you to something.

I have been looking on eBay, it's not very often any of the jet ware comes up. I actually found a teapot at dagfields a few weeks ago. That's the kind of place I was wondering if there was in Stoke...
