Elusive Aaron Alley family born Beedon Berkshire - Census help please
« on: Sunday 13 December 15 07:45 GMT (UK) »
Can you help me find out about Aaron Alley?

He was married to Ann Pike according to his son Thomas’ Australian Death Certificate.

He has 3 children for whom he has been listed on marriage records.
Thomas Edward Alley (born 1833 Beedon Berkshire) married Phoebe Chown 17 June 1855 Kennington Surrey
Giles Alley (born 1836 Beedon Berkshire) married Elizabeth Harriet Williams 4 October 1858 Kennington Surrey
Mary Ann Alley married Thomas Chown 19 Dec 1858 Kennington Surrey

There is VERY poor information on the family for 1841 on familysearch. It has them living in Beedon Berkshire with no sign of Aaron or his son Thomas.

Thomas and Giles are both working in Berkshire in 1851 as ag farmers. Thomas has moved to Chippendam Place, Tobacconist Shop, Kilburn, Willesden, Middlesex in 1861 census

From what I have found on freebmd it looks like Aaron  died in the June ¼ of 1861 Kennington Surrey.

His wife Ann may be dead in 1850 Surrey or in Rotherhithe Workhouse as an unmarried 66yo inmate. At the workhouse the birthplace is given as Maidenhead Berkshire in 1785.

Is Aaron Irish?

thank you in anticipation of finding something about this man.
cheers

thanks Rosie99.
That is a good start.
Horse keeper. that's unusual.
I think Aaron was born about 1804.
that messy 1841 Census also has a maria thrown in for good measure.

oh there is a William too.

I suspect that the son Giles Alley has a significant family name - yet to be proven of course.

From what I have seen on findmypast it looks like Aaron may have died in 1820 Wantage, Berkshire.

perhaps Aron Alley and Ann Pike were married in Enborne 1822?

Tanya,

There is this baptism of an Aaron Alley at Peasemore (St Barnabas) in Berkshire:
23-Jun-1804 Aaron ALLEY, son Giles ALLEY, and Ann.

Given that "Giles" crops among his children this seems possible.

Hi Tanya,

If the Aaron Alley born about 1804 Beedon is the one you are searching for, then I think you will
find he was buried in Beedon 30-6-1840 aged 35, which rules him out from the 1841 census. I did find Ann Alley there with one child but the image was very feint I couldn't make out the name.

Giles Alley of Beedon married Ann Hobson at Chievely 24 August 1899.

In 1841 Giles and Ann who I mentioned in my earlier post are living next door to Ann and her children
