It looks to me as if your George was born in Cheriton Bishop rather than Chudleigh if you are certain that his parents were Henry and Richord.  Therefore this looks like him in 1861, so we need to find him in 1851 to see if he was still married then.

  If you are certain he was at least in Chudleigh with a wife Mary/Maria then the family in 1841 in 1851 at same address were:-

George 9 ( Possibly the George Davis from 1841

Any sign of that family in 1861, keyboard? If there is, that either discounts them or the George born Cheriton Bishop that I found then. However as the two places are only about 4 miles apart, it could be the same man.

Hi Groom it is that assurance by the OP of Chudleigh possibly with wife Mary/Maria that leads me to think the Cherington Bishop one is not him, but if the OP would tell us just which of the children of a George Ponsford was their relative it could help!!

If it isn't the  Cheriton Bishop one, then the OP has the parents wrong as well don't they, as that one's parents were Henry Ponsford and Richord Bolt?

So as I see it they are either looking for the George Ponsford with father George who married Maria or the George Ponsford son of Henry and Richord. Two different people.

If Barry is now saying that he is looking for George son of Henry and Richord born Cheriton, we don't know who his wife was do we? It wasn't Maria.
