That being said, who knows, she may have just decided to start a new life, although approaching age 50 that seems unlikely.

oh, I don't know.......

It would be amazing if it did transpire, all these years later, that the disappearance of a wife and her brother-in-law did have some significance, and you were able to prove it.

You never know what you may find, as you say.

Graser5, are you sure that Ethel Maud was born in 1888?  She claimed to have been 27 when she married Lou Connor in 1925, which would put her birthdate at about 1998, in which case she would have only been about 39 when the "drowning" took place.

Of course, she may have been lying about her age.  ;)

Family Search has a birth for Ethel Maud Tilley born Dec 5, 1892.

Father John Thomas Tilley
Mother Mary Ann Tilley
She was born Killigrews Newfoundland.

She did shave about 6 years off her age when she married Leo Connor in 1925.
It is possible she married Condon before she came to British Columbia.

Ethel Maud Tilley born 30 Sept 1888 in Round Hr., Nfld., daughter of Eli G. Tilley and wife Mary F. Fudge.  First marriage to Morris Joseph Condon (1876-1923); second marriage to Leo C. Connor in 1925 in Prince Rupert.  Family oral tradition notes that she was married twice in BC, and gives 17 Oct 1937 as date of drowning in BC under questionable circumstances.  So, the quest at hand was to determine the questionable circumstances, and 3rd husband's name.

Re first husband: from the Prince Rupert Daily News - May 7, 1923

MORRIS CONDON DIED YESTERDAY

Well Known Local Man Expired at New Westminster After Long Illness

Morris Condon died yesterday afternoon at Westminster for which city he left here about ten
days ago.  Mrs. Condon and son George and W. Burke, a half-brother of deceased's, sailed last
night on the Prince George for the south to attend the funeral.

Mr. Condon, who had been in failing health for some months, was a native of California.  After
having been in San Francisco, he came to Victoria where for many years he was in the hotel business and where he also acted as original promoter and manager of Joe Bailey, one time champion lightweight boxer of Canada.  Deceased came to Alice Arm in 1918 and was engaged in the club business there for some time moving about three years ago to Prince Rupert where he assumed the management of the Trail Club which he conducted up to his leaving the city recently.  The late Mr. Condon was a member of the local Elk's Lodge.

The funeral, it is understood,  will take place in the south, the body to be later shipped to Cal
fornia."

I have a photo of Morris Condon and Ethel Maud.

Regarding the "Ethel Maud" born to John Thomas Tilley and his wife Mary Ann Nugent, I believe that is the individual known to the Tilley researchers as Maria Ethel Tilley, wife of Alex Reid.  That it is referred to in Family Search as Ethel Maud is cause for me to go back and have a look at that, too.  Thanks!
