Aschenbrenner
« on: Saturday 19 December 15 01:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I've been looking for some records or information on a Martin Aschenbrenner, specifically his life in Canada. I know that he and his wife Lucy Amelia (nee Clyde/my ancestor) moved to Buffalo, NY, but nothing about Canada... no records or anything.

He is also listed on New York state census for 1905, 1915 and 1925. All of the census entries I saw  (federal and state) indicate he was born in New York as were all of his siblings.

As for Lucy, she was only in Canada for about a year as the border document posted by Rosie indicates she arrived in Canada on the Montcalm on 26 Aug 1926.

This is the crux of my beliefs:

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XGSM-SMN

The father's name, birthplace and birth date all correspond. I don't know if you have subs to FindMyPast but here's link anyway to an emigration record: http://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=tna%2fbt27%2f1121000017%2f00951

The basics if you don't:

Lucy Clyde
Born 1903
Departure Port: Liverpool
Departure Date: 1926
Headed to: Montreal, Canada

I'm not following what your problem is.  Lucy emigrates to Canada in 1926 - going to a friend in Hamilton, Ontario.  She then crosses the border going to her sister in 1927.  Obviously meets and marries her husband as 1930 census indicates she had been married 2 years.  In 1931 she and her husband cross the border into Canada.  Obviously not for good as they are on the 1940 US census

Interesting coincidence - On the 1926 passenger list Lucy was going to friend Mrs Crawford 34 King Street Hamilton.  On the 9 th March 1931 border crossing she mentions she had lived at 14 Forest Avenue Hamilton (that was also the address in 1921 of George and Jennie Crawford)

Was there a reason that Lucy went to Canada or the USA  ???  Had other members of the family immigrated and she followed  ???

Another border crossing Canada to USA -  Lucy Clyde - born 1903 Liverpool England. Aged 24 years - Port of Arrival:
Buffalo, New York 27 August 1927 - Going to join sister Sister Mrs Lilly Taylor 1008 Fillmore Ave. Buffalo. NY - Nearest relative/friend in country from whence came Mrs Diana B...... FT Erie. Ontario
Had been in the USA various times on daily visits.

Looks like her sister Elizabeth Alice Clyde married John Arthur Taylor - Elham - September 1917 - 2a 2605

Elizabeth appears on a Canadian Passenger List with a daughter Florence P Taylor aged 1 - both travelling Liverpool, to Halifax Nova Scotia and arriving 21 August 1919 on the Baltic.  Going to Toronto Ontario.

Florence P Taylor birth registered at Elham September 1918 - 2a 1713
