Ah yes, I forgot about Llanrhaeadr-yng-Nghinmeirch as opposed to Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, the latter 4 miles from Llangedwyn. I'd say the former is the more likely where the John Hughes married at Mold was from. Shame, though thanks for the help.

Hughes - Llangedwyn, Llanfechain, Llanrhaiadr, Llansilin
Roberts - Llandisilio, Montgomeryshire
Davis - Caterham, Surrey
Mitchell - Windygates, Fife
Hayes - Radcliffe
Edwards - Llanyblodwell

I can`t locate any of these census records. Where is Alltgoch ?   Where is he ( town / village)   and  what is his age and place of birth on each one.

I'm missing the marriage of a John Hughes, born 1813, parents John and Elizabeth of Alltgoch Llangedwyn / Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant and wondered if this is him? He was:
1841 at Alltgoch, single, age 25
1851 Location unknown
1861 at Alltgoch, married (no mention of his wife) and a Gardener (pos. on WWWynn Estate)
1871 a widower.
1872 buried at Llangedwyn (no burial record of a Hughes who might be his wife).

Alltgoch was a cottage on a hillside south of the road between Llangedwyn and Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, the latter then often spelt Llanrhaiadr, and in the country of Denbigh.  The cottage of Alltgoch appears in the census in the Township of Trefeiliw a township of Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant which was a registration disctrict of Llanfyllin. I seem to recall the township of Trefeiliw is the key to finding these census pages.

In the 1841 census son John Hughes's age is given as 25.
In the 1851 census I haven't been able to find John Hughes.
The 1861 census has RG/94293 on the bottom of the page if that helps. John Hughes in this census is of age 43, Married, a Gardener at Llangedwyn (spelt Llangedwin on the census).
1869: 'John Hughes, Alltgoch' is recorded as a multiple prize winner at the 1869 Llangedwyn Show.
Recorded as buried by Llangedwyn parish register on 16 Jan 1872 age 56.

Hughes - Llangedwyn, Llanfechain, Llanrhaiadr, Llansilin
Roberts - Llandisilio, Montgomeryshire
Davis - Caterham, Surrey
Mitchell - Windygates, Fife

Edwards - Llanyblodwell

To complete the set in 1871
RG10/5633/49/12 (Trefeiliw,aged59,alone)

I can't find a detailed record of the 1858 marriage that gives witnesses, though banns dates records exist. It seems more likely he would have married earlier than this and closer to home(?)

Regards
Roger

I agree, on that basis the 1843 wedding in Llangedwyn between a John Hughes, Butler at Brynygwalia Hall (just below Llangedwyn) who is the son of John Hughes a labourer (which fits) to Mary Freeman Housekeeper at Brynygwalia Hall makes sense as John Hughes of Alltgoch would be 27 or so.

It might be the right one but I can't find anything to back it up.
