Can't tell u much on young Monty but do know about older Montague.do you know this was his second family. He had quite a few children with Elizabeth loveridge. Look for them in the 1871 census in Cople, beds. I haven't as yet pinned down his birth but it could be because Gray is not the name he always used. I've found him as Montague smith, Joseph loveridge and hooky loveridge as well. They are quite a difficult lot to pin down and I've been battling them for several years now as have a good few others on here with Montague as there ancestor.

Hi - I think your Montague could be related to my line. My great gran was Hetty Gray (1908-1993), and her dad was Charles Gray. They lived in Notts/Leics, particularly Melton Mowbray and were hawkers. I think they also later worked on the markets in Notts/Leics. Hetty had a brother called Montague and another called Israel (among others). Not sure if that helps - I can give you more names/dates of you think they link.
