Neil, the parents were still living at that address until their deaths in 1882 & 1883.

They appear on the 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881 Census with the exception of his father Christopher in 1871 who was in the Devon & Exeter Hospital when the 1871 Census was taken.

George is not on the 1881 Census but his wife & a baby daughter are. She was with her parents & George Edward HOARE had already arrived in AUS with his older sister Louisa.

Very short marriage... bolted within a couple of months  ::)

Going by the DoB of his daughter... probably a shotgun wedding  ;)
Then you have Ellen's father a Police Constable   :P

He was still at home in 1871 with the occupation of blacksmith the same as his father  :)

Do you mean Ellen HOARE?
She was not on the Lusitania and Merlin has found her with the child in the 1881 census.

It is an odd picture ???

We have Louisa the sister who must have known he was absconding from the marriage when she joined him on the ship.
She makes no mention of her brother in her will seven years later.

Somehow between 1880 (arrival) and 1890, George Ed. HOARE sets up a business in Daylesford which upon its sale was described, I think, as  well-stocked. There seems no mention of him anywhere between the two dates.

I haven't gone any further than the 1881 Census with Ellen when she was with her parents.
George & Ellen's daughter was also named Ellen  ::)

The witnesses on George & Ellen's MC were George's sister Elizabeth Ann (nee HOARE) & her husband James Albert JASPER.

Hi All
Well, I now have the information I was seeking about George Edward HOARE.
An unpleasant character for whom I really do not feel much sympathy.  :P
Many thanks to all who have  put in the time to assist me.

Sue
