Looking after an old Bible???
« on: Saturday 16 July 05 02:02 BST (UK) »
Hello all,
I have a signed, old bible from that belonged to my great, great, great Uncle and then his son, then my Great Grandmother and then her daughter.
It came to New Zealand from England in 1885.
It has seen better days but obviously I want to look after it, can anyone suggest any websites that specialise in this type of thing, I have many other old family letters from the 1800's that need proper care also.
As an example, my dear old Grandmother had two photos of my Grt, grt, grt, grt Grand parents under her bed in no protective sheet or anything, not even in frames, got to love Grandmothers!!!
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Brent

Hi Brent,
Here's a very useful website from the National Library of NZ, giving plenty of advice about books, papers and photos:
http://www.natlib.govt.nz/en/services/2protect.html
It looks like they also have a number you can ring to get advice from a conservator, and a link to the website of professional NZ conservators as well.
