Hi Enid,
   Welcome to rootschat  :) :)

I am guessing that his surname was HOGAN and that it a typo in the heading?

If so here is his application to remain in Australia after discharge http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/ViewImage.aspx?B=7942461

regards
   Ros

Hi Enid,

My understanding is that unlike Australia WW2 Medals issued to the RN were not named but the person did receive a slip of paper outlining their medal entitlements.

In 2013 the Queen approved a design for a new WW2 medal, the Arctic Star for those who served on the Russian convoys during WW2.

I know it wouldn't be the same as his original medals but you might consider buying replacement medals after finding out what he was entitled to wear and also consider finding out if he was entitled to the Arctic Star.

Hello Enid,
Can you be quite sure the medals are not already in the possession of a family member?
I do not know whether Frederick and Lesley had children, but no doubt you have made such inquiries.
There were certainly nephews and neices.

There was some confusion on the above linked thread about Frederick Leo HOGAN which had been posted by de windt a few years ago. de windt was searching for the marriage, which was probably after 1942, and had the wrong maiden name

For the record, Lesley's maiden name was BEATON.

Her father's Obituary names her as well as mother and siblings.

Death
HOGAN Frederick Leo
Father William Frank HOGAN  Mother Daisy Florence HARDING
Born Wangaratta
Died Prahran  1988 64 years  Reg#1316

This certificate would give you information about any children to the marriage.

I can't see a death registration for Lesley Joan HOGAN in 1988 in Victoria.  Perhaps it was registered in 1989 and therefore wouldn't be on the indexes.  Odd.

It is indeed a bit strange. As you have already noted on the previous thread, Cando, the cremation at Springvale

HOGAN Lesley Joan--Cremated    19/10/1988

Neither do I see a death for her just using terms Lesley Joan and 1988.

Hi,

WW2 sailors often qualified for a number of campaign stars after they had qualified for the 1939-45 star (180 days afloat in operational areas) because ships they served on often ventured into a number of theatres, eg, Atlantic, North Africa, Italy, Pacific, Europe, Burma.  He would qualified for the War Medal and possibly the Defence Medal as well.

To know exactly what Frederick was entitled to you might need to and get his WW2 RN records through the UK ministry of Defence if that's possible.  Maybe consider checking out WW2 UK military/Navy or Medal forums and seek assistance.

Replica WW2 medals with ribbons can be purchased through medal dealers and on line.
