Hulme's and Mills what happened next?
« on: Thursday 07 January 16 13:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I wonder if anyone could assist with some of my relations that went to South Africa and what became of them please.
I have the following information as to when they were last in South Africa but equally I'm not 100% sure if they did return to England although I have not found anything....

Robert Hulme b1891 Manchester - he married in 1916 in Glossop Derbyshire to Gertrude Knott (b 3/12/1886 Hayfield, Derbyshire)
The last trip to South Africa for Robert was 18th Apr 1925 with destination port Cape Town
The last trip to South Africa for Gertrude Hulme was 22nd February 1946 with destination South Africa

Also I have Joseph Annesley Mills last trip to South Africa was 20th August 1926 with destination port South Africa. What I do have with Joseph though is in the Cape archives some details as follows:

DEPOT     KAB
SOURCE    MOOC
TYPE      LEER
VOLUME_NO 6/9/23591
SYSTEM    01
REFERENCE 1924/55
PART      1
DESCRIPTION          MILLS, JOSEPH ANNESLEY. ESTATE PAPERS.
STARTING  19550000
ENDING    19550000

I get the impression that he died in 1955 - he was born in 1866 Manchester so he would have been around 89 years old at the time so it fits.

Lastly I have Walter Mills (b Manchester 1877) he was on the same ship as Joseph Mills (his brother) on 22nd March 1902 going to Natal, South Africa - after this I have nothing more on him either.

Any information that progresses any of the 4 people above would be fantastic  :) especially Joseph and Walter Mills as they are both GG Uncles of mine.

Thanks
Phil

Joseph married a Sarah Catherine Classen who died on 31 October 1943.  They had no children.  If you send me a pm with your email address I will send her death notice and details of her estate to you.
