Western Australia Passenger list 1861-72
« on: Saturday 09 January 16 22:43 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I am trying to find the ship that Jane Maria LEACH travelled from England to Western Australia in sometime after the 1861 census and before her marriage in Freemantle in 1872.

I am particularly interested to discover if her mother Mary Jane was with her.

Thanks  :)

Not much help with the passenger list, but this news item would suggest  Mr William LEACH  his was  in Fremantle at the time of the 1872 marriage

MARRIAGE. WALDECK— LEACH.— At St. John's Church, Fremantle, by the Rev. G. J. Bostock, on the 15th May, 1872, Mr. Robert Newton Waldeck, youngest son of Frederick Waldeck, Esq., farmer, Greenough Flats, to Jane Maria, only daughter of Mr. William Leach, storekeeper, Fremantle.

And this indicates one "Mrs LEACH" was in Fremantle in 1876 as Mrs Waldeck and Mrs Leach work together on a stall, again at the St Johns Church.

Once more this item only supports the fact that Mary Ann was in Western Australia, but does not help with the passage from England. ::)

Death Notice. Western Mail. 11/3/1898

LEACH.—On Saturday, March 5, at Home Cottage, Cantonment-road, MARY JANE, widow of the late W. Leach, of Fremantle, aged 80 years.

Hi Sue

Thanks so much for that. Seems to confirm that her mother came to Western Australia as well. Brilliant  ;D

Hi Ros

I very much appreciate all this. William Wells LEACH was transported for 25 years in 1858. His wife described herself as single in the 1861 census and then I lost track of the wife and daughter.

Today's information has broken down a very niggling brick wall and it looks as if all might have been forgiven in the end

Robyn  ;D

Yes Robyn he seems to have been a highly respected community-spirited person  :)

By the way there are more family notices in Jan 1891 but they are much the same...

cheers,
  Ros
