vaughan 1851 census
« on: Saturday 16 July 05 13:30 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with the whereabouts of Richard and Elizabeth Vaughan (Vaughn or even Vaugham) in 1851 or earlier?  In 1861 Elizabeth (b. around 1791) was a widow living with her four grown up children at Fitz Mill, Grafton Village. I'm interested to know how long ago my family became involved with corn milling at Fitz.

Thanks, Kate.

Hi Kate

This is them in 1851. The only address bit is ? Mill in Fitz

Thomas Vaughan, H, M, ??, Miller master employing 2 men, Salop Chirbury
Elizabeth, W, M, 59?, Salop Fitz
William, Son, U, ?8, Fitz
Thomas, Son, U, ?4, Fitz
Elizabeth, Daur, U, 32?, Fitz
Martha, Daur, U, 25?, Fitz
Elizabeth Evans, Niece?,12, Baschurch Salop
William Probert, Servant, U, ??, Waggoner, Not known
Thomas Williams, Servant, U, ??, Waggoner, Baschurch

I hope this helps a bit. Sadly I cannot read the ages properly.
There is another Vaughan family in the cottage next to the Mill...if you would like the details, let me know.

Thanks, Allie
I didn't know about the son Thomas.  My ancestor is another son Richard who I assume had married and left home by 1851.  The neighbouring family would be of interest when you have time to post it.

Thanks again, Allie
Two lots of Thomas and Elizabeth Vaughans - mine are the millers, perhaps the rest are cousins.  Will have to try and go back a few years and see if I can link them up!
