Marriage - Peter Griffiths 1885

I am trying establish who Peter Griffiths (my Great Grandfather) married in St Tecla, Llandegla in 1885. It was either Mary Roberts or Mary Hughes. They had a son (also called Peter ) either in 1885 or 1886 and Mary died between 1886 and 1897. He married his second wife (Margaret Ann) in 1897 ( I have proof of this marriage). I am trying to avoid sending for 2 marriage certificates (only to destroy the wrong one). Is there anyway I can view records with information which would help me decide which one to send for? I would be be grateful for any help anyone can offer.

If no confirmation can be found online - a copy of one of their childrens birth certs will confirm her maiden name

You could send for son Peter's birth certificate...this will give his mothers maiden name. also
fathers occupation.

Was Peter (snr) a bricklayer (2nd marriage cert.?) if so..then he appears to have the same
occupation in 1881-1891 and 1901 census...you should state this when applying for marriage cert..
or..sons birth cert.

Thanks for the welcome and all the suggestions. The marriage I am looking for was Peter Griffiths first marriage. On the marriage certificate for his second marriage  (1897) to Margaret Ann Evans he stated he was a widower and he already had one son Peter (abt 1886) so I looked to find a first wife and I found the 1891 census with Peter/Mary/Peter. I cannot trace Peter Griffiths birth certificate because the ages given vary 1861-1863 and even 1868 on his second marriage and there are just too many Peter Griffiths. I have the same problem for his son, Peter. There are at least 4 born the same year. It doesn't look as if there were any other children except to his second wife. I can trace everything perfectly from 1897 onwards (I have birth certificates and other records) but have pretty much drawn a blank before that.

As you have his 1897 marriage cert - does it have his fathers name and occupation on it?

If it does - you could apply for the 1885 marriage cert but with a condition on it that you only want it if Peter's father was named ...............
