:-[ I am an idiot. Although I am convinced I asked for a marriage certificate, and I definitely gave the reference for the marriage, they said the request was for a birth certificate. Oh well, I'll learn!

I am going to Hawarden records office tomorrow. I'm hoping to find the marriage in the church records for Llandegla.

I think I have a much harder task coming along. His father (also Peter Griffiths) was married to an Irish born Margaret and I can find nothing on him between his birth in 1830 and 1871 where he appears on the census.

Thanks for your help Rosie!

I am glad you can see where you went wrong, hope you can locate the marriage tomorrow  :)

This could be Peter the elder in 1851
Princes Gaid(?) Mold

Peter Griffiths   21 Journeyman, shoemaker bn Mold, Flintshire
Margaret Griffiths 22 Boot binder bn Galway, Ireland
Mary Griffiths   6 Months bn Mold

There is another Griffiths family living next door but one that may be worth keeping a note of (maybe a brother)

Thanks Rosie, I don't know how I missed this! (too many Peter Griffiths, shoemakers) I think it is Princes Yard which was later known as Princes Court. I haven't found who the John Griffiths is on the same page BUT I looked on the previous page (still in Princes Court), and there is yet another Peter Griffiths who I think will be his father. WOW!! Progress.

I am just about to order (again  ::))what I hope will be the correct marriage certificate. I went to the records office, this morning. They were very helpful but couldn't find any record of the marriage in the Parish records. The North Wales BMD gives the church as St Tecla (Llandegla) so I was really hopeful. I'll get there...eventually!

Providing you don't give the wife's surname when you order the certificate and just name his father as Carole suggested you should be lucky.  Let us know how you get on.
