Hairdressers - Hammond

Hello,

I'm looking for a hairdressers owned by Frederick Charles Hammond that was on Iddesleigh Road, Queen's Park, Bedford.

I have found a mention of it from September 1934 as Queen's Park Toilet Saloon, Queen's Park, Bedford. I would guess it was closed for a while because after Hammond's wife died he re-opened the saloon in November 1950.

I would like to know it's exact location on Iddesleigh Road, if possible.

How would I access the Kelly's Directory myself if I wanted to? I asked at the local library but they did not seem to know.

Various newspaper snippets give his address as 54, iddesleigh Road, Bedford including living there in 1949 when Jennie Hammond died.
Bedfordshire Times and Independent 23 Oct 1936 has a small piece with F C Hammond  asking persons to refrain from parking bicycles outside "Queens Park Toilet Saloon, 54, Iddesleigh Road, Bedford."

1938 Bedford Directory - has at #54 Iddesleigh Road, Frederick Charles Hammond, hairdresser.

He's also listed there in Kelly's 1947 & 1949/50. The next year I have, 1955, at that address is Lionel L Haynes, hairdresser, fishing tackle & tobacconist.....while Frdk C Hammond lived at 51 Newnham Street.

btw.... local Bedford incl Kellys directories are available in the Heritage Library open Tuesday at Bedford Central library or in the Beds Archives searchroom.
