Warrant Officer Stanley White 1282575
« on: Friday 22 January 16 13:27 GMT (UK) »
I dont know if any of you can help.  The Sgt I work with has obtained (legally LOL) the medals and some memorabilia of the above.  He likes to find out more about the subject. I wonder if any of you can find any more details about him.  All we know is that he was born on 22 April 1921 (but not where), that he was a Wireless Operator/Air Gunner and that he was in both Africa and Burma.
I have attached a pic.  We think he is the Warrant Officer in the middle :)
Many thanks
Dee

There are 6 births in the June qtr 1921 but 5 have middle initials.

Of the 2 remaining - one appears to have been illegitimate.  Both entries are in the North East

Have you checked www.cwgc.org in case he died in WW2

You can find out what branch of the service he was in from that serial number.

Secondly,   I am guessing that his nick name in the Army was "Chalky"

He was in the Royal Air Force.   He does not come up on Forces War Records (doesn't surprise me, and his full record wouldn't be there anyway as it was WW2) which is the only site that gives a search against a service number as far as I am aware.

Unless you can find his NOK or establish that he has been died over 25 years then, as you are unrelated, you won't be able to apply for his service record as you probably know.  The hope must be that someone recognises his name.  Does any of the memorabilia have an indication as to his squadron, there may be an old comrades association?

Well done Spikey68.   How much detail does the individual's file contain?  I see that the specific AIR 78/169 is downloadable for free but is 250MB in two files.
