a TYNESIDE NEWSPAPER list ,

You would need to know which newspaper  - there were an awful lot. Are you talking about Newcastle upon Tyne, Gateshead, North or South Shields? They all had their own newspapers, and copies are held at different places.

You'd also need an approximate date for the article.

I seriously doubt that such a list would be allowed to be published in a newspaper.

Churchill did not allow bad news to be released to the general public, did he?

What I think would happen, if a service man or woman became a PoW, would be that their next of Kin would get a letter from the War Dept informing them that the person had been captured and was a PoW

There are many examples of brief reports in newspapers (I've only looked in that area) saying that so-and-so is reported to be a POW in (Germany)/(Italy) etc.   The regiment is also often named.

10KEN - your post said "POW" which could be singular or plural, did you mean one man - if so do you have his name?

How about downloading all the British prisoners that were in Stalag VIII-B Lamsdorf (Stalag 344)

"British Army POWs of the Germans (all camps, not just Stalag VIIIB/344 Lamsdorf)This list was possibly compiled in 1944 (as it shows Lamsdorf as 344 - 8b is Teschen)"

Scroll down the page for a list of men known to be in this camp

http://www.lamsdorf.com/names.html

Perhaps you will find your man or some other Tynesiders?

The Times would publish a regular list of casualties. That list would include Killed, wounded, missing and those made POW.

The POW list could be months after a person was captured, and depended on both the NoK being informed, and the status being confirmed through the Red Cross. The Germans were a lot better at informing the Red Cross than were the Japanese.

These lists would merely have name, rank and regt. Nothing more.
