ELR is East Lancashire Regiment

MR is probably Militia Reserve

NZ connection still not known. Pairs of medals were often split up with one going to one relative and one going to another one. So the KSA may still be in the UK. Collectors believe that only about 15% of Victorian medals survive. They were often pawned and melted down for the silver. Probably lost when a child was playing with it.

You could try a post on the British Medal Forum looking for the KSA. Are there any clasps/bars on it?

Thx Ken - "ELR" so obvious when you think about it.  I will take up your suggestion re BMF - maybe the KSA (with 2 bars) will turn up but I am picking silver was worth more than sentimentality.

Many thx also to Rad for the Chelsea Pensioner Number.

Thank you Whiteout07 for your suggestions.  Whilst those families are fairly well documented in the area, I can link to the Carlisle Devlins, nor even the Dunedin Devlins at this point.  I am hoping something will appear from the Devlin descendant end?

I have looked at Anthony's siblings,

James seems to have stayed around Carlisle and raised his family there, the only one
I didn't trace was one of his daughters,

Mary married went briefly down to Stockport with her husband Robert Brown,
and returns to live in Carlisle and raise a large family, Brown will be a hard one to track ,

Good luck, with reuniting them, I was thinking though as the family stayed close to Carlisle
an email to the Cumberland News office , may be a good idea,

Sorry I was wondering if the medal found had any clasps on it.

Hi Ken, and to all others who contributed:

The Devlin family descendants have been contacted thanks to your very able research assistance and guidance.  Contact was made after I contacted the editor of the Cumberland News which resulted in an article seeking assistance from the population of Cumbria.  The medal is now on its way to Carlisle where Pte Anthony Devlin is buried and his ancestors still reside - it will be duly worn along with his brother's war medals by his descendants on appropriate occasions.

My thanks again one and all.
