I also considered the John Cox in Prison.  Mary's son had been 'in and out' so I wondered.

I found not find Amelia Cox dying between 1841 and 1844.

OK, the death of John Cox, 49 of Wharf St is V interesting.  When Mary Newey and John Cox were married in Oct 1844, Mary lived in Wharf St and John in Milton St.  Looking at Google maps, these streets meet at a T intersection.  That is possibly him!
