Barbara Bell - what was her maiden name, when did she die?
« on: Wednesday 27 January 16 18:43 GMT (UK) »
Barbara Bell was born around 1815, she was married to Edward Bell a Provisions Dealer and was living in Wrekenton when Edward died.  Can anyone help me find out:
1 What was her maiden name and when was she married?
2 What happened to her after Edward died in 1868? Where did she go, when did she die?

Welcome to Rootschat.

I've found them in the 1851 and 1861, but can't see them before that - do you have them in 1841 as that might help to pin down a marriage?

Possibly, but that could be the Barbara Bell born Penshaw who is in the 1861 census with husband Edward on 1861. Edward is a Parish clerk, so it isn't the same couple. That Barbara is a widow in 1881 working as a servant for Thomas Crawford  RG11; Piece: 4962; Folio: 60; Page: 15

That looks good, Gosforth and Gateshead are only about 5 miles apart.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions.

I've already looked at the avenues you have suggested and excluded them.

I can't find them on the 1841 census.

Any more suggestions most welcome

As Barbara would have bee 43 when her husband died have you considered the possibility of her getting married again?
There is a marriage for a Barbara Bell to William Hay or Thomas Potts in Gateshead Q4 1872.
There are a couple of deaths for a Barbara Hay born 1816 died 1891 Sunderland and born 1816 died 1891 Monkwearmouth
There is also death record for Barbara Potts - died 1891 Castle ward northumberland

There are a couple of other marriages in the area for Barbara Bell (Sunderland Q1 1871 to Thomas Tate Baker or James MArshall, and Glendale Q2 1871
Burrell - Mainly London area
Wallace - North-East England
Starling - London, Cambridge & Suffolk
Park - London, Derbyshire & Lancashire
