I cant see how Mabel could have 2 sons by the same name therefore JH Houston 1985 death informant ( his wife Marion) must have been mistaken.

But they must have been related - the name Mabel Helen FLANAGAN is not something you pull out of a hat.

During the time it was functioning, I did not see a birth for John Henry HOUSTON with parents as listed on the cemetery memorial .

Sue

What about under FLANAGAN?

Neither appear on electoral rolls until after they are married,  I think you will first need to establish whether William and Mabel had any natural children.

Do you have the marriage registration for JH and Marion, and if so, what information does JH give about himself and his parents?

Cheers,  JM

The marriage was probably less than 75 years ago but if you can prove that both are deceased you may be able to apply for a search.

Debra  :)

Hi Debra,
Yes, I did search under Mabel FLANAGAN, to no avail.  But I am not confident the search was thorough :-\

Sands Alphabetical Directory 1915
John W H HOUSTON, Solicitor, Somerset House, 5 Moore St, (JM notes as in Moore St was name of Martin Place, Sydney at that time) p.r. (JM notes, abbreviation for private residence) "Brighton" Kurraba Road, Neutral Bay (JM notes Mosman BDM district covered Neutral Bay at that time)

Just adding for interest

Mabel Helen FLANAGAN was one of a number of children born to John and Sarah Jane FLANNAGAN at Wollongong.

Her father died in 1893
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/132289099

In  1900 her mother remarried to Thomas BRINDLEY(#9897 at Wollongong) and she died in 1925 at Wollongong (# 1983)

Sarah Jane's death notice does not give information about her children. ::)

My thoughts are the John Henry HOUSTON who died in 1985 may have been the son of John BELL HOUSTON and Martha Helen FLANAGAN but possibly his birth was not registered exactly as he called himself.  It is possible he was Henry John or something similar.

John Bell HOUSTON and Martha Helen FLANAGAN married in 1918 so it is possible that John Henry HOUSTON who died in 1945 was not born until 1919 and would not be on Sue's resource.

I have given you other avenues of finding information so I suggest you follow those.

Your man is not connected to John William Hugh HOUSTON or his wife Mabel OTHER-WINDSOR.  They had two daughters and a son, William.

You need to purchase transcriptions of JHH's parents death certificates.

The lass born 4 February 1916.  May I mention today is 100 years on from that exact date.  I would expect the online index tomorrow to include the birth registration that Sue found on her resource.

I agree with Cando,  the death registrations of his parents should include him.
