Joseph Slater - Breadsall 1842
« on: Wednesday 03 February 16 16:07 GMT (UK) »
Looking for the GRO registration details to order a birth certificate for Joseph Slater born Breadsall 1842.

The one I ordered as it is the only one I could find was Reg dist Belper, Vol 19, pg 419.
This is definitely wrong as it list parents as William and Mary.

My Joseph Slater's parents were Benjamin and Elizabeth. I have the marriage certificate for Joseph to Mary Ann Cotton showing Benjamin as his father and the census seems to suggest Betty (elizabeth) as his mother. I think her maiden name was marsh.

I would like to get a birth certificate as proof even though I have the baptism details showing 23 Jan 1842 showing his parents as Benjamin and Elizabeth  and the baptism place as Breadsall as per "England Select Births and Christenings" On his marriage certificate it states his place of residence as Stanley at time of marriage.

Any help appreciated

It is quite likely that this early on in registration that there is no birth certificate.  The system was tightened up in the mid 1870's.

Family search gives a christening of Joseph Slater  23rd Jan 1842, father Benjamin & mother Elizabeth.

Benjamin appears to have died in 1844 and Elizabeth(Betty), Joseph, his wife and family all lived in or around Breadsall up to 1901 so this may well be the confirmation you need.

Assume you census up to 1901 but if not let me know.

DEXTER-  pre 1800 Rutland & Lincolnshire
DAWSON -  Wymeswold Leics
HALL - Sheffield Yorkshire UK & Tasmania
MARSH- Willoughby on the Wolds
BLEWITT/BLUEITT/BLUITT mainly Grantham area
