Looking for my great grandfather, Henry Peter Vonthethoff
« on: Friday 05 February 16 12:06 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find records of Henry Peter Vonthethoff prior to his marriage to Ann Winchester in 1857. I think he was born in 1835 and I know he died in 1901. I suspect he came from Europe and his  name may have been Heinrich Pieters or Henrie Peitrie.

Thank you All for your responses.  I am now looking for Gobus Van Hoff and all I know is that his son was probably Heinrich Pieters Van Hoff (1835 - 1901) who changed his name to Henry Peter Vonthethoff, his mother-in-law's maiden name. I have information about Henry's marriage and descendants (of which I am one). I'm not even sure if the names of Heinrich Pieters Van Hoff and Gobus Van Hoff are accurate as there is a family story about someone who "jumped ship" so they could both be made up!
