Michael Hughes born Anglesey 1825
« on: Sunday 07 February 16 22:10 GMT (UK) »
Michael Hughes born 2nd September 1825 in Anglesey  to William Hughes and Jane (nee Luke)

There is a record of this in the Eng and Wales Non Conformist Registers on Ancestry. Can anyone clarify the place of birth on Anglesey, which is indistinct?

I have a marriage for a Michael Hughes and a Ruth Brereton from Pentraeth in Bangor in 1860 and subsequent sightings of same Ruth Hughes in 1861 and then in 1871 with son William. However I can't find Michael Hughes (apart from a poss sighting on board ship) in 1881. I can't find his parents in 1841 either. If anyone has time to look, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

When did his parents die - pre or post 1841?

When were they born?  The 1841 has 35 entries for the name William Hughes in Anglesey all old enough to have had a son in 1825 - born 1790-1800

What was Michael's occupation on the 1860 marriage cert and what was William's?

Thank you both. . I was too busy focusing on the entry to think about the transcription. I have just found all this tonight, having re subscribed to Ancestry after a much needed break. Ordering the marriage Cert is the next step I think.

Hi,

If you have a look at the familysearch.org web site for Jane Luke it will show a marriage with William Hughes at Llandegfan on 25 June 1811. It will also show 2 potential baptism of a Jane Luke in 1799 or 1767 neither of which seem to fit the marriage details.

There are 2 children showing -

Ellin born 17 July 1814 at Llanbedr Gogh
Joseph on 25 June 1820 at Llanfair Mathafarn Eithaf.

The marriage details say William was from the parish of Llanbedr Gogh and Jane from Llandyfrydog.

If you look also at just the surname you will see other potential family members you may want to look into.

Alan

Hi,

Just been looking at the parents William and Jane Hughes who I can find in 1851/6//71 censuses aged 69/79/89 and 61/71/81 respectively - have you theses details?

I also think I found them in 1841 in Llanddyfnan showing as aged 55 and 50 respectively with an Elizabeth age 12 and Owen age 7.

In 1851 their son Joseph is at home  - have you looked into this line?

There is a possible death for William at Llanddyfnan age 90 on 3 April 1872 - informant Mary Catherine Jones - does this tie in with what you have already found?

There seem to be several possible options for Jane's death but the most likely seems to be at Llanddona age 84 on 27 Feb 1873 with the informant being an Elizabeth Hughes - this lady could be Joseph's wife (I think he married in 1865 to a Elizabeth Lewis who had been widowed (original name was Jones). However, this is by no means certain and may need further investigation.

Hope these details help.

Alan

Thanks, Alan. I am awaiting marriage cert for Ruth and Michael Hughes. Ruth is on 1871 census  as mother to William Hughes b1867 and possibly my great granddad.

Digging back in to the family of Michael in case anything relevant cropped up. Nothing so far that strikes a chord.

I found a death for Ruth Hughes of the right age in Anglesey in 1876 and wondered whether  William might have shown up with the father's family, but apparently not.

Appreciate your input. Hopefully the marriage cert will give a further lead :)

Hi,

If you are looking at the death of Ruth Hughes who was aged 50  - this was on 12/12/1876 at Llanallgo and she was the daughter of a deceased boatman Richard Hughes.

Doesn't look to be connected.
