Hi Sandra and RunKitty,
I stand corrected, Edward Henry S Smith is one of the family as you've found out, very sorry I misled you but I was misled by Ancestry's 'hints'; In point of fact, only Edward has apparently the Sturt name, the others had no S in their Christian names! It is true that their grandmother's maiden name was Sturt.
Thank you again for your clever researches.

Yes the 4th son, was Albert Edward b q1 1901 at Brighton, England and is shown on the 1911 census there.

Obviously you were looking at the wrong census record for Edward Henry S Smith and nearly managed to throw us off the scent. ::)
I was very intrigued by all the references in records adding Sturt to the names, which is why I persisted in that line of research, that then made Sturt-Smith more unusual to look for. Sometimes names aren't registered at birth but can become part of someone's identity later.
Great finds with those obits RK - I know it can be time consuming going through those papers.
An enquiry to the BC Volunteer or Libraries could confirm the passing of Ernest Edmund in British Columbia.  Look forward to an update on that one.

Hi again,
Is it possible to find out the 'possibly living' children from:
Obit for Edward H S Smith in Globe and Mail May 26 1975.  Says he was called Ted.  Died on May 24th at the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital.  Address was 2220 Marine Drive, Oakville.  Husband of Doris.  Father of P of Whitby and Dr B of Montreal.  (No indication here of how old Edward was, so I don't know if the sons are still living.  Won't use full names).

Hi,

Yes, Barry is one of the sons mentioned in the obituary.  If Barry was born in 1945, it is very likely that his brother is still living.  I am glad I didn't post the full name!  Thanks Sandra for finding that.

Here is Barry's obit... it mentions other family members, including his brother P.

That's a horrible illness to watch someone going through - hubby had an Aunt, Uncle and Cousin with the same thing. None of them averaged the survival from onset to death of three to four years - it was more like a year  :'(  Very sad.  :'(

There is quite a bit of info about living rellies in the obit just above. Although it has been a while, you can try to look for them in the telephone white pages at this link. Contact info is generally provided.

Thank you very much for all your wonderful research, Sandra and RunKitty, the picture is becoming much clearer. Couldn't access the Heritage site and what is ALS?
