I take it from your reply that Edward Harry Stuart Smith was not a brother of Walter and Ernest ?
Presume the ancestry tree has got 2 families mixed  ::) Now removed.

Hi,

Obit for Edward H S Smith in Globe and Mail May 26 1975.  Says he was called Ted.  Died on May 24th at the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital.  Address was 2220 Marine Drive, Oakville.  Husband of Doris.  Father of P of Whitby and Dr B of Montreal.  (No indication here of how old Edward was, so I don't know if the sons are still living.  Won't use full names).

Wonder if an obituary for the brother Walter Tom Smith 1893 - 22 December 1978 York Ontario would mention brother Ernest or the Nieces  ???  Perhaps someone can pick up something on Walter  ???
Walter Tom Smith married to Marion Ethel Tong - 9 April 1923 - Marion passed away April 1969 Toronto

Looked for sister Norah's obituary to see if it mentioned any of the Smith family.

Norah Eleanor (Smith) Bennett died Sept 20 1991 in Georgetown.  Wife of the late Robert Henry Bennett.  Her 3 children and their spouses are mentioned.  5 grandchildren also named.  Buried at Park Lawn Cemetery, Toronto.  No mention of Smith siblings/nieces/nephews.

Yes Sandra, Edward Harry S wasn't one of their family, there were 4 children and I've them all, I think Edward H S was born in 1901 according to that census.
Thank you RunKitty for the obits for Walter and Norah which fills in a few gaps.

Great finding those obits RK - excellent  ;) It helps with a time frame for Ernest.

So Ernest was still living in BC in 1969 according to Walter's obit.

Any luck with that e-mail to the nearest library ref an obit for Ivy, which might show married names of the girls  ???

Who were the other children you have not mentioned  ??? We know of Evelyn, Jean the 2 sons (who could still be living and one of which was not Donald E on the border crossing)  We also know Leonard another son was the informant on the death certificate for his mother Ivy. Who were the other children you have not mentioned  ???

The ancestry tree's are being specific and quoting a date of death for Ernest as 23 July 1976 (with no place or source  ???) - if he stayed in the same area the library might also pick something definite up for Ernest at that time - worth a shot anyway.

Hi Sandra, I don't know a lot about libraries in Canada or how to search for what I need?
The other children were Dorothy Jean who seems to have died in 1923 aged 3 according to a tree on Ancestry and an Ontario death record. Norma Ivy 1926-2001 according to the same tree who m Howard L Osborne 1926-2002, James T who crossed the border with Arnold and Sandra b in Trinidad from the other tree with no sources and no replies from my questions!

Try googling to see if you can find an e-mail address for Chilliwack Library.

Here is a link to an RAOGK volunteer who will look at -  Vital Records for BC, including Birth, Marriage and Death. Newspaper announcement if available.  Give as much detail as you have.
