Beryl Lovering born 27 March 1920

I have a bit of a dilemma. I'm trying to apply for my grandmother's birth certificate only to be told from home affairs there is no records. I'm not sure if this is because I couldn't provide an ID number (she died in 1955). Surely there must be a birth certificate? I've got a copy of her baptism record as well as her 3 siblings so I don't think this was a family that didn't register things. Can anybody help with this? Her name was Beryl Lovering, born 27 March 1920, in Cape Province. Fathers name David Henry Lee Lovering and mother Queenie Lovering. Thank you.

I have just had a look at her estate file, but unfortunately no mention is made of an identity number. I see that she was born in East London. Have you tried their home affairs department?

Yes she was born in East London, Cape Province but did not have an ID number as she died in 1955. I think this was before ID numbers were issued? Home Affairs has said 'no record found'. I'm wondering if it has been misfiled. Any suggestions? Also I don't live in South Africa, so I've gone through an agency.

I am not sure how their filing system worked then, but possibly her birth was only registered a month or so later.

As far as I know identity numbers started being issued in 1950.
