In fact, at least 8 of the couple's 9 children were registered as Stillgebauer in Poplar, 1883-1903.

Can't yet find Edith c1890...

They were already Bower in the 1891 census but I have not found them in 1901.

First child was Adelaide Catherine Stillgebauer birth reg Dec qtr 1883, death reg Jun qtr 1885 both in Poplar.

Adelaide was baptised 13 Jan 1884 at St George in the East - birthdate 12 Nov 1883.  Parents Henry Stillgebauer, engineer, and Catherine, of 7 Howard St, Poplar.

Looks to me as if Henry Stillgebauer may have been of German origin and anglicised his name. My great grandparents did that with their first names.
