The Northumberland marriage index 1813 - 1837 has only one Thomas Richardson marrying an Isabella and that is in Newcastle in 1822.

Have you seen my reply at #2?

Death reg for George is Sinton

Depending on the writer - S and L can often be misinterpreted.  You are looking at a transcription on FS so need to see the original parish record

You are definitely correct SINTON it is. Back to finding that marriage but at least I am now convinced that Thomas Richardson & Isabella are my ancestors. Would be nice to find that marriage though. Oh well, Now for the Sintons!!

Just making sure you got the full implications of my earlier post.  Unless your Thomas Richardson married Isabella Bowman in Newcastle St. John in 1822 then there is no suitable marriage in this county between 1813 and 1837.

There seem to be a few Thomas Richardson/Isabella couples in Durham but I'm thinking it would be more likely from Tweedmouth to find them marrying in Scotland or cross-border.

Hi Christine,
Thanks for your replies. I think you could be right about the marriage taking place in Scotland if indeed they were ever officially married. I have a few unofficially marrieds!

I know from your other threads that the family were Presbyterian so it is highly unlikely that they would marry in England at a time when all marriages had to take place in the Church of England.

It is very common in the north of the county for Presbyterians to pop up to Scotland or to go somewhere like Lamberton Toll or Coldstream Bridge for what is known as a cross-border marriage.  They were legal but there are not a lot of records available.
