Thomas Dalby
« on: Friday 19 February 16 14:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi!
Can anyone help with any of the following?

I have a Thomas Dalby (surname sometimes spelt as Dalbye, Dolby etc) leaving a will in 1619 at London. From what I can read of his will it says he was a Citizen and Mercer of London. In his will he mentions his sons Edward and Thomas and also a daughter Judith.

On familysearch and ancestry I think I have found the baptisms of Thomas four children:

Judith (judeth) Dalbie baptized 20 June 1611 St Lawrence Jewry and St Mary Magdalene 1611

Elizabeth Dalby baptized 15 July 1613 (Died 1619?)

Thomas Dalby baptized 7 September 1614

Edward Dalby baptized 14 November 1615

In Thomas Will he also mentions sister Anne Wilton and her husband George. When Anne Wilton died in Crediton, Devon in 1649 she mentions her kinsman Edward Dalby and also Judith Dalby.

If anyone can help with any of the above I would be most grateful, especially for parents of Thomas Dalby or his wifes name and marriage. Also if anyone knows what happened to Edward, Thomas or Judith Dalby that would be a big help also! Thank you. :)

Have a look at Boyd's Inhabitants of London (on FindMyPast). There are quite a few Thomas Dalby entries there, including at least one who appears to belong to the family you're researching.

Good Afternoon
I've had a good look at the records for London and it seems Thomas Dalby mercer had some earlier children at St Leonard Eastcheap

a woman child born dead 3.1.1603
Thomas age 8 months buried 28.8.1604
George bap3.8.1606 s of Thomas Dalbie mercer
Marie 24.4.1608-11 .5.1608 3 weeks
William and Sara buried 10.8.1610 and 25.10.1610 St Mary Mag Fish St

This pushes the marriage back to c 1600 and there is a possible at St Mary Battersea
Thomas Dalbie and Aymie Pinke 21.9.1601

A burial for his brother Edward Dalby 10.11.1601 again Thomas mercer

As for the children
Judith looks like she married George Moseley mariner both of Ratcliffe 3.6..1645 Stepney
Edward married Elizabeth Jelliaman 30.11.1631 St Brides Fleet St
And a possible for Thomas 8.4.1638  Stepney of Bednall St lab and Anne Pryer.

The London Roll website includes records for the mercer guild and these for Thomas Dalby
Thomas Dalby new freeman 1571/2  by act
Thomas Dalbye 1594 new freeman  Master Thomas Dalbie
Thomas Dalby 1609 master of new freeman George Combye
And
Edward Dalby new freeman 1600 by apprentice to Isaac Kilborne

It looks to me as though Thomas has received his training from his father also called Thomas and has qualified 1594 with little brother Edward in 1600.

The Boyds Inhabitants list refers to a Thomas Dalby marrying a Jane Crackplace widow 21.9.1585 at St Micheal Cornhill ,this I think is his widowed father remarrying the widow of Cuthbert Crackplace goldsmith.Janes 's first child Elizabeth was born 1573 and Cuthbert died 22.4.1585 and given Thomas looks to have been born c 1580 it doesn't look like she is his mother.

She does however mention him as a kinsman in her Will 20.2.1617 (Jeane Dalby London Wills Ancestry)
It looks like Thomas Dalby senior was buried 26.4.1604 at St Michael Cornhill but unfortunately no Will
ps the only possible christening I can find is at St Giles Cripplegate 23.5.1578
Thomas son of Master Dalbye
