OK so it may be worth you posting that information on here and see what we can make of it before you spend lots of cash for something you already have and don't need.

Starting with one of the childrens birth certificates what information does it give.

That is a baptism record.   :)

The additional information that you would get on a birth certificate is Place of birth though it may just name village/town, Fathers occupation. Mothers maiden name and it sometimes also includes an additional surname if she was married before.  We need to establish who the father of your John Henry is.  As he was born in 1880 and Jane says she is widowed in 1881 the certificate could state that he was William Hodgson (deceased)

US World War 2 Draft Register on Familysearch. Record Card for John Henry Hodgson of Portland, Oregan, says he was born Darlington, England, December 8th 1879. There is a John Henry Hodgson birth registered in Darlington in Dec qtr 1879 so that should be him.

Some baptisms on Familysearch, first three match Janes children in 1881.

3 May 1871, Darlington Holy Trinity. Frederick William Hodgson. Parents William and Jane.

4 July 1873. Darlington St. Paul. Jane Alice Hodgson. Parents William and Jane.

22 Oct 1874, Darlington St. Paul. George Hilereth Hodgson. Parents William and Jane.

27 May 1878, Darlington St. Paul.  Mary Theresa Hodgson. Parents William and Jane.

There is a death of a Mary Teresa Hodgson, aged 2, Darlington, Jan qtr 1881, hence not on 1881 census.

This is probably them in 1871, implies a second marriage for William.

8 Durham Road, Harrowgate Hill, Cockerton.
William Hodgson, 33, Policeman, b. St. Johns Chapel, Durham,
Jane Hodgson, wife, 28, b. Winston Gate, Yorks,
Mary A. Hodgson, dau, 11, b. Crook,
Thomas Hodgson, son, 9, b. Durham
RG10/4886/33/18

Winston Gate is right next to Ovington, its where Jane is living in 1881, on same page as her father and brother.

Northumberland - Smith, Willis,
Durham - Rogerson, Child
Cumberland - Irving, Hill
North Yorkshire - Layfield,

Ugh, I knew that.  I feel very silly right now.  I will order that record tomorrow.  You have been a huge help, thank you.

Mary and Thomas are from the first marriage, right?

As for Jane, you said she was on the same page as her Father and brother, What are their names?  Will you send me the link/image please?

Its the 1881 census record referred to by Rosie on the first page.

RG11/4931/4/1

Widowed Jane Hodgson is living at Winston Gate, with children Frederick William, George Hildreth and John Henry, all born Darlington.

Christopher Hildreth is a few entries up the page. Household includes a Jane Alice Hodgson, grand daughter, 7, b. Darlington. And a brother in law William Boldrow. Wife, daughter and brother in law all born Winston Gate. The Hildreths, including Jane, are living at Winston Gate in 1861, so the 1871 census must be the right one.
