Hi
Marriage of Isabella Johnson Esler Aug 14 1893 to Samuel Bradley in Macclesfield states her father was deceased and that his occupation was commercial traveller.

...but Mina's marriage to Edward Victor Rumsey 19 June 1897 does not show  John Esler as deceased (occupation remains commercial traveller).

Thanks for that, I had her marriage but no other information.

But I am wondering if he was just absent, as I can find no census with them as a family anywhere, she seems to be on her own with the two girls,

Added

That makes me think he was an absent father.  I am trying to see if he had another family with the other Elizabeth Anthony mentioned  earlier in the thread. Would have been easy to do as a commercial traveller.

He and Elizabeth Anthoney had at least 8 children- do you want the details?

Did a bit of a timeline to see how it all might fit togather-

Apr.1870 John Johnston Esler (JJE) married Belfast to Elizabeth Merion (EME)
Oct.1870 son James Samuel Esler born Belfast
what happened to him? can't find a death or burial in Belfast
1871 Isabella Johnston Esler born Belfast
1873 Jemima Esler born Macclesfield
looks like EME went back home with the girls, did son die in England?
1881 EME in Macclesfield
1891 EME in Macclesfield
1901 EME in Macclesfield
1911 EME in Macclesfield
1933 EME died Macclesfield

July 1874 JJE married (Stepney, Middlesex, England) to Elizabeth Jane Anthoney
1881 JJE shipyard clerk in West Ham (London)
1901 JJE engineers clerk
1911 JJE in Crayford, Kent
1917 JJE buried Crayford, Kent
1929 Elizabeth (Anthoney) Esler died Kent
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

I have those, been going mad all day trying to sort it out with RC help and the freebie weekend.

Don't know what happened to the son, no mention of him when she appears with the two girls in England census in 1881 back in Macclesfield.

Using your freebie weekend if you just search for John Johnston Esler a lot immediately appears. There are quite a few trees for him.

Found a baptism for James Samuel in Belfast 17 Oct 1870 father John Esler mother Elizabeth Merion, so that's my Elizabeth.

Seeing as how they only married 15 April 1870, seems this was a shotgun wedding, not unusual amongst my lot... but where did James go
