Bell Family
« on: Saturday 20 February 16 12:57 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am really, really struggling to find any certificates or documents about my Great Grandfather Peter Bell. I've tried looking for his birth certificate (born 1900), 1st World War records (Regiment Kings Own Scottish Borderer's), death certificate (died 1960/61) but to no avail! On his marriage certificate it says that his father is called Thomas. Peter was married to Ada Gordon Mackay, father was called Thomas and we believe his mother was called Elizabeth Williamson. We don't know where he was born(presume Scotland!) and not sure where he died either(whether it was Scotland or England but a family member thinks a specialist hospital, possibly for tropical diseases). Any help what so ever would be gratefully received! I know I haven't got a lot of information here but someone maybe able to help!
Thank you
Kathryn

You've plenty of detail to start your searching with. It seems the marriage took place ion Scotland-
Hi I am trying to find some information out for my mum about her paternal grandmother. She was called Ada Mackay (born abt1900 I believe) and went onto marry Peter Bell in Midlothian Scotland.

Scottish marriage certificates show names of both sets of parents so it sounds as though you haven't gotten the marriage yet as was suggested in December?

You've also a thread asking for Peter Bell's military records- have you followed through on that yet?

The latest available Scottish census is 1911 and it's only available on Scotland's People website (pay per view).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Yes I have searched for Peter's War Record on the Forces Records site and nothing. Just looked at Peter and Ada's marriage certificate that I got from Scotland's People and his parents are Thomas Bell and Elizabeth Williamson. I've searched on Scotland's People for Peter's birth certificate as well and can't find him.

Oh wow Clare thank you very much! I was just looking at a marriage certificate from 1896, I think it is, I was unsure whether to pursue down this route as she was named as Ellen. Someone had private messaged me about the 1911 census and she's Ellen on there and they said to continue ad they do change their names or it gets lost in translation sometimes! But if you've gone back to 1875 & she's Elizabeth Ellen it has to be the correct ones! Thank you so much, hopefully headache resolved!
