Thanks Frank & John for your help :-)

Here is the photo of my father in law who played the hawaiian guitar in a band.  I've been trying to find out more information on this band and have hit a brick wall!  On the back of the photo are the names I wondered if these could have been the other two band members.  I believe this was taken about 1934 and could have been in Sheffield.

Probably a bit later than 1934 as the electric guitar had only just been invented then.

The guitar on the right is a normal guitar, the one in the middle is a "lap steel" guitar - so called because it's played on the lap with a metal bar called a steel (duh....!). The one on the left may be a Hawaian guitar - also played on the lap with a steel - but it's not possible to tell from the photo.

Good morning,

From their looks I would say they are the two named on the back.

The chap on the left has no chair and is standing behind a microphone so I would say his guitar is not played on the lap.

Although more usually played on the lap, it is possible to play one standing using a strap.
