A.E.REED ex Captain Canadian WW1 Expeditionary Force
« on: Sunday 28 February 16 05:39 GMT (UK) »
Im trying to trace the above man who lived in Winnipeg Manitoba in 1919 after WW1. (he later moved to Toronto where he was living in 1948)
The reason for trying to find the family of this man is that I found a letter from him in the Military file of the brother of my G Grandfather.
My GGrandfathers mother is a huge brick wall on my family tree and the letter ( written in 1948) which was in his file from A.E Reed said that he was a second cousin and was looking for the address of his cousin Lionel who had visited his family in 1919. He was trying to trace other relatives in relation to disbursements of a will of a deceased relative in England.  If I could find who that relative was it may break down my brick wall!!
Any help gratefully received.

Could this be his ww1 attestation papers?  Albert Edward Reed, captain, born in Guildford, Surrey in 1882.  Address when signed up was Winnipeg.

If this is your man, it looks like he married in Winnipeg in 1909.  Wife is Margaret Ann Pratt.

They have 2 children here - Faith Austen Reed b 1910 and Edward W S Reed born 1913.  Albert came to Canada in 1903.

Perhaps the middle names of the children will give you some surnames to work with...?

You are welcome.  I just added the birth information for the 2 children.  See above post.

You could look for Albert's birth registration information... to see who his parents were.  Free BMD has him registered in Guildford in the first quarter of 1883.

I found an obituary in the Toronto Star for an Edward W S Reed.  He died in Toronto in 1999.  He was 86.  This is the right age for the Edward W S born in Manitoba, so it might be him.  His wife is Dorothy.  3 children are listed. So are 8 grandchildren.   There is no mention of a sister though...

Toronto Star, 13 Dec 1999 page B7.

AHA... just found an obituary for Albert Edward Reed in the Toronto Star... 1969.  It mentions wife Margaret Ann Pratt and children Faith Relf, and Edward Reed.  Albert died in BC.. Says he was formerly of Toronto.

Here is his death cert from BC.

According to this, he was born in Surrey, England.  Parents were William Reed and Faith Wood.

Margaret Ann died in 1974

Daughter Faith Relf is informant for both her parents' death certs.   Looks like she lived in Delta BC.
