William Hamilton of Wanstead
« on: Sunday 28 February 16 09:44 GMT (UK) »
According to his death certificate, William Hamilton died, aged 86, on 6 June 1936 at Central Home, Leytonstone, his usual address being 16 Spratt Hall Road, Wanstead. The informant was E. Webster (no known relation) of 16 Spratt Hall Road, Wanstead, 'causing the body to be buried.'

Where was William Hamilton likely to have been buried?

Unfortunately, my quest for surviving Central Home records through West Ham Borough Council, Newham Archives and Local Studies Library and Waltham Forest Archives proved fruitless. No luck there at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Rodeo

Some cemetery records for this part of London/Essex are at DeceasedOnline.com (e.g. Manor Park and West Ham), but he's not showing up in their free index.

The City of London Cemetery is very close to Wanstead and Leyton. Those records are not online. A burial search (before 1956) with the exact date of death is £25.00.

Many thanks for that, Bookbox. City of London Cemetery is definitely worth a search.

As William Hamilton was Scottish, I wonder if there's a Presbyterian cemetery in the vicinity of Wanstead/Leyton?

Cheers,

Municipal cemeteries are generally non-denominational. Some have separate sections for particular religious groups that predominate in the area, but that's unlikely to apply here.

Hi !

Spratt Hall Road is in the London Borough of Redbridge,  It might be worth contacting them.

I found them helpful when I was trying clarify where I was born (almost on the boundary of newham, waltham forest and redbridge) :)
