Hi Mark

I'd let a professional person from either legal or similar person with expert knowledge of reading and deciphering into plain meaning !! of legal bumph of these old doc's for you.

They may give more of a broader clarity who George Hood widower might have been and some idea as a rough parameter circa BMD of this George's life span years (Possibility of 66 year variable difference in the life span of George mid to older age widower being alive between 1764 -1830 range)

John Clark Tanner of Selby is good info though !! and his descendants of possible connection to George Hood tanner of Selby D 1845 (Good find that doc 1830.)

 :)
In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Hi Dobby

John Clark who died in 1764 was John Clark SNR Tanner who left a will.  The five daughters relate to John Clark JNR.  Can't remember if I've found JC jnr death.  Just going out now but will check later.

Hi Mark

You say John Clark died 1764 leaving his daughters and Coheiresses something. Thats 66 years to 1830

I'm not sure from your posts if George Hood widower was left an inheritance from John Clark in death/will/probate 1764 or not, or George Hood widower was named in some property transfer (Buy or Sell) in 1830 related to the Clark property- ?

I'd let a professional person from either legal or similar person with expert knowledge of reading and deciphering into plain meaning !! of legal bumph of these old doc's for you.

 :)

Thanks.
It is though the late John Clark's Tannery advertised for sale (quoted in my reply 220) in 1764 has not sold and been kept by each of his Coheiresses [as One-Fifth Shares]. The 1831 document gives a summary of whom each of four of the Clark daughters married, some are now dead, but some offspring are mentioned and Legal speak.

What was interesting, is the reference to "George Hood of Selby aforesaid Widower" in it.

Regards Mark

Hello Goughy, dobfarm, bumblebee and All

The 1835 George Hood Kirby Hill Probate File already ordered and in queue to be scanned.
The March 1764 John Clark of Selby Probate File (Will if no file) ordered.

The 1831 document Woodcock & O'rs to Hood, refers to property documents of December 1830 [likely those in the newspaper Sale advert of Sept 1830], also firstly to Hannah Woodcock of the City of York widow, saying she was one of five Sisters and Coheiresses of the Late John Clark of Selby and that her name was Hannah Clark before marriage.

For example, one of your Clark replies on here, has already confirmed that Hannah Clark married John Woodcock 2 February 1788 at Selby. Also Goughy mentioned a few other Clark marriages.

It is my belief that the 1831 document which also mentions George Hood Widower and which refers to documents of December 1830, is taking the Clark lineage right back to the Late John Clark of 1764.

Kind regards Mark

Dates fit this scenario

George Hood X Maudlin Spencer 1731 marriage (Maudlin dies ?) (George Hood Widower Selby)

John Hood b 1738 Father George in Scarborough

John Hood parish ? X Jane Marshall parish Pickering married in Pickering

Bond Allegation

John Hood aged b 1738 aged 27 X Jane Marshall b 1738 aged 28 marriage 28th March 1765

Jane Hood (Nee Marshall -?) wife of John died 1803 Selby

John Hood died 1819 b (1738) Selby

Generation gap  by dates -  A unknown son of John and Jane ?  - Father of George Hood b 1778 to say
   b 1792 died Selby 1845

Jane could just be young enough to be George's (d 1845) mother if born 1780 ish but to old at 1790
In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

1807 poll book - towns in index - Selby pages 58 - 59

http://archive.org/stream/countyyorkpollf00unkngoog#page/n74/mode/2up

Would suggest looking for Hood trades in the polls- Coopers, Brewers and Tanners in towns/parishes where Hood Baptisms, Marriages and burials appear on FindMyPast, Ancestry and Familysearch also other online BM-D's/burials websites
