Thomas and Benoni Rowe
« on: Monday 29 February 16 10:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi!
Can anyone help with any of the following?

I have a Thomas Rowe baptised 1657, London and his brother Benoni Rowe baptised 1658, London, sons of a John Rowe of Crediton, Devon (1626 - 1677). Both were non conformist Ministers.

Benoni Rowe died in 1706 and on 15th December 1684 at St Michael Cornhill married a Sarah Rowe (she was aged about 20 years), with the consent of her guardian Mr John Rowe of Shobrooke, Devon (her parents deceased).

Benoni and Sarah had issue: Thomas, John, Sarah, William, Benjamin and Theophilus.

If anyone can help with Thomas or Benoni mother much appreciated! :)

I was going to recommend checking the Surman Index, which is a standard resource for nonconformist ministers and is usually well sourced. But the data it shows for Benoni ROWE doesn't seem to match your own.  ???

Further to the above, the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography has an article under the heading Thomas Rowe (1687-1715) covering both Thomas and Benoni Rowe (1657/8-1706). Also other articles on members of this Rowe family.

The article on Benoni opens with the statement that he was not the younger brother of Thomas Rowe, as was long thought, but his brother-in-law, and was married to Thomas Rowe's sister Sarah. Benoni's parents are named as William Rowe and Alice Scott, as in the Surman Index entry cited above.

John Rowe of Crediton is said to have married 'Anne' around 1655 (no surname or date given).
