Thomas Maidment x2
« on: Monday 29 February 16 13:46 GMT (UK) »
Hi

Can anyone help solve this mystery?

I am researching a Thomas Maidment who married Isabella Kirtley in Sunderland during the December quarter of 1867.

He was born in Southampton c1843/1844, however, the only man of this name, born around the right time, died in Southampton in 1876.
This Thomas Maidment had married an Emily Wall in 1867; after his death, Emily married his brother, James Pope Maidment, in 1879 and remained in Hampshire.

Can anybody find the other Thomas?

Thanks

Sue

freeBMD only has one Thomas MAIDMENT born in Southampton (between 1840 and 1850) in 1843.

Looking at the census there appear to be two.

In 1851 there is a Thomas (born Millbrook, Southampton circa 1842), son of John & Jane.

In 1861 there is a Thomas (born Southampton circa 1844), son of George & Sarah living with a brother called James P.

In 1851 there is a Thomas (born Millbrook, Southampton circa 1842), son of John & Jane.

John Maidment , the father , is of Donhead St Mary, Wiltshire. There is a baptism for Thos Maidment, son of John and Jane , 6 Mar 1842 at Donhead St Mary.

Perhaps Thomas was registered in Wiltshire rather than Southampton ?

Hi

Thanks for your efforts! Hopefully, we have the right man. There appear to be only two Thomas Maidment's born around 1843 in, or around, Southampton, and it definitely isn't the one with James Pope Maidment as his brother; he definitely died in 1876, whilst 'my' Thomas was alive and kicking and living in Sunderland at this point!

Thanks again

Sue

Hi,

Just a little it of extra info Re: "Thos Maidment, son of John and Jane , 6 Mar 1842 at Donhead St Mary" posted by CB53, there is this birth,

Thomas MAIDMENT    Mar Q 1842    Tisbury   8  412

( Donhead St Mary was in Tisbury Registration district)

The 1851 census found by bearcat shows John and Jane were both born in Donhead St Mary, Wiltshire.

I think that the only way to be sure would be to get the marriage cert.

Thomas MAIDMENT    Dec Q 1867    Sunderland    10a  661
Isabella KIRTLEY

Regards,
Daisy
