In accordance with plan, he formed a bombing block in an enemy communication trench, for which his section repulsed bombing attacks for 7 hours Later though the hostile infantry attacked in force and dislodged our garrison he remained at his post until all his own bombs and those captured from the enemy had been thrown, and was the last man to leave the trench.
