20/1038 Corporal C. Felce, Northumberland Fusiliers, (South Shields), London Gazette 28 March 1918. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. The conduct of this N.C.O during the operations was most conspicuous. When in charge of a bombing section, he entered the enemy trench and at once attacked, single-handed, a hostile bombing unit, killing or putting to flight the whole garrison. In accordance  with plan, he formed a bombing block in an enemy communication trench, for which his section repulsed bombing attacks for 7 hours Later though the hostile infantry attacked in force and dislodged our garrison he remained at his post until all his own bombs and those captured from the enemy had been thrown, and was the last man to leave the trench.

Hi,
Think I have them in 1891 as PILER

Jane's  age must be wrong if she is the mother! Perhaps meant to be 40 rather than 20?

Births Sep 1873
FELCE    Joseph James         Auckland    10a   256
Births Sep 1876
FELCE    Robert William         Auckland    10a   176

no birth of Charles registered Auckland which is the district for Eldon, but there was a James

Births Jun 1882
Felce    James         Auckland    10a   195

May be James Charles but second name not registered?

Well found, fidderslass - transcribed as 'Pelce' on ancestry and don't know where familysearch got Jane's age as 20 from - it clearly says 45, there is not even a 20 anywhere near the entry!

This certainly looks like the right family.

However, the James Felce birth you mention is not Charles - this James Felce death recorded Jun.1882 Auckland.

So, for whatever reason, Charles' birth does not appear to have been registered.

In 1881 (3rd April) Jane Felce states she is a widow and presumably pregnant with Charles likely to have been born in 1881.   Cannot find a death entry for husband William Felce so, other than his name have no idea who he is.   Think you need to get a copy of his marriage certificate:

William Felce married  Jane Gill 13/5/1872 Escomb, Durham.

Hopefully his age will be given, occupation and name of his father and whether he was a bachelor or a widower (as we know Jane was a widow).    Cannot see an obvious entry for him in 1871 Census, year before he married.
