Annoni family from Liverpool and Italy
« on: Wednesday 09 March 16 06:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, looking for some advice regarding one of families in my tree. They are the "Annoni" family from Liverpool. The head of the family was Alexander Annoni. Born in about 1840 in Italy but no idea where.

I know what happens to him from 1861 onwards but have no birth certificate.
I know he married in Liverpool in 1869 and that his father is listed as Ambrose Annoni. (no further BMD details).

I can't find a naturalisation record for him or any incoming passenger records for him between 1840 and 1860.
If he remained an Italian citizen would there be any other potential records from the Italian Embassy in the UK?

Any suggestions of where to look next.
Thanks

Ed

Did he have a business or shop in Liverpool?

Did he emigrate to the USA?

Thanks for reply. Alexander Annoni ran a grocery business in Thomas Street, Liverpool according to the UK census data He died in Liverpool in 1902. He never emigrated to the States as far as I am aware.

1901 census states he was an Italian Subject - so there won't be any Naturalisation records?

Yes - don't think he became UK citizen. So nothing else to go on. Want to go further back but not sure how.

Hi ewontner,
I am the one who does "Italian Research".
You are looking for a needle in a haystack here in Italy. Unfortunately there are very few records online in Italy
All records prior to the Unification of Italy are held by the local churches in regards to BMD.  Some are held, not many, by the Provincial Cultural Offices or the Diocese offices.
To find a record you will need a town name, date of Birth/marriage/Death (00/00/0000). As your case is prior to the Unification and only a year date and no town it is unlikely you will find anything.
After the Unification records can be obtained from the local town hall, but a date would be needed.

As a matter of interest the surname comes from the Lombardy Region of Italy and they are all mostly concentrated in that region with the odd few who have moved to other parts of Italy.

If you can give me any other info, even just a town I will try and find something from the Cultural Offices.

Sorry it is not good news.

Can I just point out - that baptism that has Elizabeth Lennon as mother ...sounds like because of Alexanders Italian accent that he was misheard - He married Isabella Lennon - not Elizabeth
she died aged 51 in 1901 - West Derby reg district , Liverpool

1901 census they are living in Thomas St Liverpool
