Hello, I have just joined Rootschat because I was given this site by my Family History Lecturer and she had used it for some research of her own.  I am doing an online Family History Course with the University of Tasmania, Australia.  I live in the State of New South Wales of Australia and I have researched my Great Great Grandfather from when he came to Australia when he was 24 years old.
I need some help finding the marriage record of his parents and I am not sure where to look.
He was born in 1816 in Stockport Cheshire and was baptized in the non conformist church at Tiviot Dale Heaton Norris in 1816.
His Parents were James Lee and his wife Mary.

Thank you Regards Carol Smallman

Don't know if it's of any help.  Found a marriage for James Lee and Mary Done 26/07/1807 at All Saints Runcorn,  both of Runcorn by banns witnesses Nathan Alcock Sewell and John Davenport. I did find a few more James Lee who lived in Stockport. Good luck in your research.

Hi Carol

Welcome to rootschat

It would help us if you could give the first name of your 2 gt grandfather and the names and dates of birth of any possible siblings so we know the time frame for his parents wedding.

Have you found any of the family on the UK census.

Do you know the date that he arrived in Australia, was he alone.

Rosie

Hello

Try contacting this link http://www.stockport.gov.uk/services/leisureculture/libraries/archivesandlocalhistory/

You could google Tiviot Dale Stockport for further historical info.

As far as I am aware the chapel was demolished to make way for the M60.

I have looked at familysearch.org , the nearest for Stockport listed is the parish of St Mary Cheadle about 3 miles away

Try this free link http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng the nearest areas will be Portwood or Brinnington

Hi, A web site which I use regularly is http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/ a site run by volunteers. It also has useful links. I noticed that Heaton Norris is listed with a brief potted description and it's churches.

I suspect the "non-conformist" church at Tiviot Dale would be the Metodist Church at the bottom of Lancashire Hill - my parents were married there and I was baptised there!

The records probably won't be on FindMyPast (although they maybe) as the church is on the north side of the river (Mersey) and, in those days, consequently, in Lancashire.
