Yes, marriage banns gave her father's occupation as horse breaker. It's possible that the 1825 birth for Emma is the wrong one. I noticed that John and Emma first daughter is named Eleanor and not Ann?? Daughters are usually called after their mothers or grandmothers - all of my ancestors were anyway. Maybe I should look for an Emma Roberts with  parents named Thomas and Eleanor!

:) Yes, and I would also suggest that at the moment you cannot be absolutely certain she was even born in Denbighshire, although the 1851 at least suggests Denby, Wales?!

Their is this possible one to look into given that Emma in my findings was born c 1820/22:-

Emma Roberts 6th August 1820 Llanelian Yn Rhos Father Thomas occ Coachman? Mother Ellin abode Dolwch
From Denbigh baptism's FindMyPast

And this possible death, Emma Thomas March qtr 1875 Liverpool 8b 49 aged 54

Also what could well be John in 1841:-

Ann Thomas 60 Not born in County
Thos 32 Not born in County
Jane 23
JOHN 19
Residing at Gascoyne Street, Grimbleys Court, Liverpool
Census Ref HO107/557/ 13/26 / 7

In 1851 living next door to John/Emma and family:-

Ann Thomas 69 Widow b Anglesey
Thomas 42 b Anglesey
Jane 32 b Liverpool
Grace Roberts Daughter/Married 29 b Liverpool
Residing at Court 7, Liverpool
Census Ref HO107/2178/469/47

In 1861 living a couple of doors away from John/Emma & family in Raymond Street:-

Thomas Roberts 41 occ Seaman Merchant Service b Wales ( Beaumaris, Anglesey in 1871 possible baptism 25th July 1819 Beaumaris Father Griffith occ Mariner Mother Elinor)
Grace 41 b Liverpool
Census Ref RG09/2654/54/34

hi
I have all the census information for Gascoyne Street and Raymond Street already, thanks. I still have no luck finding a baptism for Emma Roberts 1820-1822, so I think the 1825 one must be her, as she was illiterate she probably dint know the exact year she was born. Many thanks for all your help.

??? If you have all the census returns for Emma, can you confirm she was aged c 3 years old at baptism in Wrexham,  as otherwise I suggest you look carefully at the above post?
When does Wrexham come into any of the returns from 1841 to 1871?
So you knew of Ann Thomas and family, Thomas Roberts & Grace?
Who says she was illiterate her age is pretty constant throughout including death??

The age of Emma on that 1825 Wrexham baptism is only about 2 weeks old. According to the marriage Banns between John and Emma in 1841, Emma is illiterate as she has only left her mark. It's possible she just stuck to 1825 as the year of her birth through out her life. I am going to focus on finding some sibings (if any) to get more info. Many thanks

??? GIve me one census from 1851 to 1871 when she gives 1825 b Denbighshire ( In fact forget Denbighshire)
You are so wrong  ;D

PS Were you not earlier suggesting that you possibly should look up a baptism with parents Thomas / Eleanor?

The 1851 census for Emma has Denby, Wales for her birthplace.  I can't find any baptisms for an Emma Roberts 1820 -1822 with a Thom/Ann as parents in the Denbighshire area. And if we rule out Denbighshire altogether, I have no other clues to any other areas of Wales.  It's just another brick wall driving me mad!

;D You are driving me mad ;D you say Emma due to illiteracy sticks to 1825 throughout her life, I request any census 1851 to 1871 no answer, earlier you said possibly due to children should perhaps be looking for an Emma with parents Thomas/Eleanor/Ellin b Denbighshire which I possibly supplied and ties with 1851/71?

Ok steady on  ;)  I just told you that the 1851 Liverpool census has Denby, Wales for her birth-place, unless you are asking me to attach the actual census, which I  can't do! You seemed fixed on the idea that it can't be 1825 as her date of birth because none of the census forms has that date. I have yet to find hardly any census forms that had the correct date of births for any of my ancestors!  Family history is confusing at the best of times!
