Hi Matt

I do not know if the 1678 Mary Waite is the one you are looking for-I think you would need to check the Swindon p/rs as well.

There do not appear to be any other baptisms with Sylvester and Sarah as parents on my CD
and there are no baptisms for a Sylvester Waite

The John and Mary mentioned for the 1698 baptism is recorded as a Miller {as in flour !!} in subsequent baptisms

Hi Kim

Yes I think you're right about checking Swindon too. So far though I haven't found anything there though. I have checked on FindMyPast, Ancestry, and Familysearch but not found anything in that time period yet. I might see if the SoG in London have the Parish Registers though and check them.

There is also a Mary WAYT born 1668 in Shaston Magna but I'm not sure how near that is to Hankerton, Minety or Swindon.

Interestingly I forgot to mention that John Keen's patents were a Sylvester Keen and Sarah (Rymer) so if the Mary in Liddington is mine then that's two sets of Sylvester and Sarah. I am definitely not ruling it out and it looks more likely than the Mary Wyatt in Salisbury.

The Mary WAYT born in the 1690s won't be mine as my Mary was married in 1701. John Keen was born 1672.

Does your CD cover Swindon?

Anyhow that's all for now and thanks for your help.

Matt

Hi Kim

I believe I have found my Mary Wayt. There is a will for a Thomas Wayt (dated 1734) in the Wiltshire and Swindon Archives and they have kindly checked it for me and in it he does mention his daughter Mary Keen. John Keen and Mary Wayt were married by licence in 1701 and the bondsman was a Thomas Wayt. Until now I did not know who that was but it now looks like this was Mary's father.

The John Keen you mentioned is my ancestor and the grandson of John and Mary Keen (so far I know of only one child for John and Mary - Sylvester). He married Margaret Iles in 1753 and died in Wanborough in 1803. Sylvester and Alathia also had two other sons Thomas (born 1733 Swindon) and Richard (born 1738/39 also Swindon) but I know nothing about these two.

Many thanks for all your help.

Matt
