St. Dympna Baptism
« on: Wednesday 16 March 16 12:34 GMT (UK) »
I have read that some churches would record Baptisms of adults as well as children. I learned that a Thomas Graham was baptized at St. Dympna on 7 May 1846 in Tydavnet. Can anyone verify if Thomas was a child or adult when baptized and if a child the parents name and abode? This maybe another ancestors that Proni missed when sending me birth records. Thanks in advance.

I think a baptismal register would record ALL baptisms regardless of age but it's really just a matter of whether adults were marked as such in the register.

I can't see a Thomas Graham on this page at all-

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.

I have since found out that Thomas Graham was born May 7, 1846 and baptized 17 May 1846 in  Tydavnet, Monaghan. His parents were Thomas and Elizabeth( Martin) Graham. Interesting because my search request to PRONI covered that year and I was told negative, so will have to contact them and see what they have to say.

Thank you for your efforts.

What is the source of the new information? is the information supposed to be from the church records or somthing else?

I went to family search.org and instead of running a name search (which is what I always do) I ran the name under "genealogy" and got a hit which gave me birth and baptism dates for Thomas Graham Tydavnet and with the parents names which is my 2x great grandparents.

Which sounds like a submitted record?

Sorry I just saw your email. I'm not sure if the information I found on familysearch.org is an actual submitted record and will have to verify when I travel to PRONI and view church records. I was given a baptismal date from one of your members, so 2 out of 2 seems reasonable, but as you know one can't assume as anything is possible. Will advise when I know 100%.
