Looking for Great-Grandmother Ellen Darroch
« on: Monday 21 March 16 06:22 GMT (UK) »
Hello, Im wondering if anyone can help me as I live on the other side of the world and am unable to view any records apart from those online.

I am looking for my Great-Grandmother, as far as I know she was born Ellen Farr in approx 1911.
Her parents were John Farr and Catherine (Spence). She had a sister named Maria/Mary (married name Fitzsimmons).
She married James Darroch on 7th July 1931. Her father was deceased at the time of the marriage.
Together they had 6 children. Three died in infancy, their names were Ellen(b. 1939), James and Patrick (b. 1946).
They lived in Partick. My Grandfather said he was about 14 when she died so roughly 1946/47.
It has become a real mystery as I have looked on every online site I know of and have been unable to find any record of her. I would appreciate any help at all! Thank you!

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Have you looked Scotlands Peoples website?  http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

There is an EllenHelen Farr's birth registered in 27 Jan 1912 at Greenock.   It is a site where you need to register and by credits to view.  I had a look the cert and the parents were John Farr and Catherine (maiden name Spence) John was a Journeyman Rivetter.   The couple are listed as marrying on  6 July 1896  at Port Glasgow

Kay

Edit - Apologies I put Ellen - but the actual record is for Helen

Yes it should tell you her cause of death.

I think this may be her mother and grandmother in 1901 living in Black Bull Close, Port-Glasgow

Catherine    Farr    Head Married 29 House Keeper    Glasgow, Lanarkshire
May    Spence Mother    Widow 57 Farm Worker    Ireland

Possilpark and Partick are both districts within the city of Glasgow, so yes, they are quite close together. A journey of about 20 - 30 minutes by public transport.
Paterson, Torrance, Gilchrist - Hamilton Lanarkshire.
McCallum - Oban, McKechnie - Ross of Mull Argyll.
Scrim - Perthshire.
Liddell - Polmont,
Binnie - Muiravonside Stirlingshire.
Curran, McCafferty, Stevenson, McCue - Co Donegal
Gibbons, Weldon - Co Mayo.
Devlin - Co Tyrone.
Leonard - County Donegal & Glasgow.
