James Horton lookup request please.
« on: Thursday 24 March 16 08:26 GMT (UK) »
Hello. I am trying to find a James Horton. The only information i have is he died 20-12-1885 age 66 and was buried in East London Cemetery Plaistow.. The last place i can find him is in the 1851 Census Friars St Oxford.with Elizabeth. I am assuming he must have moved to london by the 1861 census. I may be wrong. I am not sure if this is enough info to go on, but any help would be appreciated. thank you.

Hi, i have not got a birth cert, but have taken the death from a rememberence card , one of many of the family that my Grandmother in York UK had kept of family deaths. James was bapt St Mary Magdalen Church 1819 Oxford son of William and Ann Horton. I got that info from a search OFHS did for me.The 1851 census has James with wife Eliz and daughter Eliz in Friars Rd Oxford,in the household of William and Ann Willis (i think grandparents as in their 70s,James  father William Horton married Ann Willis)

Just for information the James Horton in Birmingham in 1881 has Emily Russell 8 and Alfred Russell 6 the children of Ann Sophia Russell and Edmund Richard Russell his grandchildren but no parents of the children there

There is also a tree that says his wife Eliza died in 1856

Just a possibility

In London Bromley-by Bow on the 1891 census there is as family as follows
Richard Russell born Oxford 1847 (maybe preferred that to Edmond)
Emily Russell born Oxford 1844
Emily daughter born 1874 Birmingham
Alfred son born 1875 Birmingham
Kate daughter born 1877 Birmingham
Occupation of father working in the iron industry an Iron dresser

It could be James was visiting them and died whilst he was there Plaistow cemetery is very close to Bromley-by-Bow. If this happened between census he would not appear on any record.

note-  If this is the right family I have just found the Russell's, Richard Emily and Kate age 4 in London in 1881
