If you have access to Ancestry, they have the baptism records of John, Lucy and Mary Ann. But I have not found the record for William. The IGI has a transcription for William Edward bapt 24 Dec 1820 St Martins - in the Fields, but I can't find it in the register. Either a mistranscription on the index, or the record on Ancestry is a copy of the actual register (maybe BT?) and it got missed off. 24th and 25th Dec were very popular dates for baptisms. The vicar certainly earned his Christmas dinner.
Samuel's birth date of 1773 is calculated from his age at death. This would only be to the best knowledge of the informant. The will of this Samuel is on Ancestry. He left money to two
daughters, but no wife, sons or any other relatives. One daughter got 20 pounds - can't read her name, but quite a short word. The other daughter Mary Ann got 5 pounds. The unknown daughter got the most and is mentioned first so possibly the older of the two.
If he was born in 1773, he would be 36 when he married Lucy. It is also surprising that there are no children between 1809/10 and 1816, and then four popped out quite quickly. Maybe others to be found in the gap.
Have you any information about what happened to the other three known children? presumably William is the direct ancestor and his history going forward is known.
Hi Liz
yes you are spot on.. I too think the may be a "George, Ann and possibly a Samuel" floating around. I saw a George on IGI many moons ago, but dismissed it, but it has still stuck in my mind.
Towards the end of the Will (I have really bad eyesight now) I think I saw a George and a "John or James".
And to make matters worse Wm1 has 1wm son, who has 2 wm sons. and a whole heap of Elizabeths grrrr
I have manage to track Son John who married a Mary Westbrook, 5/7/1840, Lucy went to Tideswell and married a John Handley 1845, Wm came to Oz and married Sarah Leonard 1840 in Bathurst, NSW and I am having a bit of a struggle with Mary Ann. (only found this out a few hrs ago. I thought she has married an Absolom Solman in 1835 then he went to USA she stayed behind and I THINK she then married a William Stapleton B Abt 1826 Paddington Green, St Mary, Kensington, London. whew what a mouth full. lol.
I found John and Mary on 41 census last nite at the same place. (His occup. Bedstead maker???)
so feel sure that is him. Have not done research on that Wm yet.
The 1841 Census threw me as Absolom is with her on that Census but she has a child to Wm Stapleton before the 1841 census, marriage 1840.
But there is definitely something wrong. I found Wm Edward (he dropped the Edward) on IGI,
but that was before it all changed lol. I have been really sick on and off mostly on for the last 4 odd yrs so I'm just getting back in the swing. I have even forgotten how to do a post. Yes I will let you laugh lol. Thanks so much for taking an interest. It really is appreciated. Cheers for now Dale.
