Before seeking a birth registration Cert. Please can anyone tell me who was the father of Leopold French Wood born 1864 in the Uckfield Registration District. I know the mother was Mary Ann Wood?

Where has the Mary Ann Wood mother info come from?

I'm guessing that Mary Ann WOOD married Henry SETFORD.

She seems to have had a few children before marrying and is single in 1861.

I rather doubt that the father will be listed on the birth cert.

Mary Ann WOOD married Henry SETFORD in 1870 (Free BMD) and Leopold F SETFORD is in the 1871 Census living at Fletchling Sussex.  So it seems that the Husband of Mary Ann WOOD has died and there has been a remarriage.  As well as Leopold there seem to be at least four other WOOD children brought into the remarriage, Herbert Henry Walter, Mary I, Thomas and Edward.

That's the problem,though. It looks to me as though Mary Ann WOOD was a spinster when she married Henry SETFORD.
